Chelsea, who beat Manchester City 2: 1 in the 31st round of the Premiership derby, secured the title. Seven rounds before Liverpool end have an unattainable advantage of 23 points.

The Liverpool players watched Stamford Bridge’s broadcast of the match together and celebrated together as did the fans who welcomed the end of the game on the streets around Anfield.

After the game, emotional Jürgen Klopp, on the verge of tears, appeared in the English Sky Sports program, and club legend Kenny Dalglish was in the videoconference.

“I don’t have any words, it’s incredible and more than anything I’ve ever dreamed of. It’s fantastic to be a champion of this club. Kenny, that’s for you too. I know how long you’ve had to wait. It’s also for Stevie [Gerrard], it’s for both of you. Kenny, the guys love you and Stevie and it’s never been hard to inspire them because this club has such a great history. I didn’t want to watch the game of Chelsea and City, but I couldn’t bear it and watched it. It was tense. Incredibly, my players have done in the last two years and it’s nice to be their coach,” Klopp said.

Klopp said, adding: “This is a great relief. Maybe not to me because I haven’t been waiting for 30 years but just four and a half. It’s also a relief because we didn’t know what’s going to happen to the season so I’m overjoyed it’s over. People, rejoice, it’s for you all. Just stay home and enjoy,” the Liverpool coach concluded.”

Klopp arrived in Anfield in 2015 and said that in the next four years he expects the team to win at least one big trophy. He lost the Champions League final to Real two years ago but won last season’s European title. He scored as many as 97 points last season in the Premiership but missed one point in the championship.
