AS Roma forward Edin Dzeko scored his first two goals of the season as his side came from behind to beat Benevento 5-2 in Serie A on Sunday, while Carles Perez crowned their success with an outstanding so Serie Ao goal.
Roma has seven points out of four games and is still undefeated on the pitch. Their only loss, 3-0 to Verona, was ruled by a disciplinary panel after Amadou Diawara was irregularly fielded in a game that ended 0-0.
Benevento, who has six points, went ahead in the fifth minute with a shot from Gianluca Caprari, who took a deflection and looped over Antonio Mirante.
Pedro leveled out of Lorenzo Pellegrini’s pass in the 31st minute, and Roma took the lead with a Route One goal four minutes later.
Mirante’s long goal kick found Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and the Armenian sent a diagonal pass between Dzeko’s two defenders to the far corner.
Mkhitaryan himself had another goal set off after a long review of the VAR offside in the buildup.
Roma middleman Jordan Veretout clumsily handed down a penalty early in the second, and while Giancarlo Lapadula’s effort was saved by Mirante, he was equal to the rebound.
Veretout put Roma back in front of another penalty, and Dzeko finished his fourth counter-attack before Perez finished his style win.
The substitute picked up the ball in his half, charged forward, slipped between two defenders, and fired home from the edge of the area.
