Chelsea prevailed 3-0 over 10-man Rennes in the Champions League Group E on Wednesday, thanks to two first-half penalties hammered home by striker Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham.
The match swung the way of the Londoners with the two penalty rulings that were both taken against Dalbert Henrique, defender of Rennes, on loan from Inter Milan. A second yellow card was shown to the Brazilian, and it was sent out in the 40th minute, after a long VAR check, when the ball ricocheted from his calf to his shoulder, having received his first caution, after 10 minutes, to trick Werner into the box.
Werner has converted both spot-kicks, taking the job of Chelsea’s penalty-taker from Jorginho who missed two earlier this season.
“I’m glad, I’m happy that Jorginho is fine with it. It’s another point that speaks for our squad, we’re not greedy. We’re all going in one direction that’s healthy, “Werner said to BT Sport.
Abraham made it 3-0 five minutes into the second half with a short-range finish after an inch of a perfect cross between Reece James.
