Juventus forward Gonzalo Higuain is expected to miss the Series A restart opening games after picking up an injury in training, while Milan got an update on Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘s progress after suffering a problem with the calf.

The 2019-20 Series A campaign is about to start again after the coronavirus pandemic, with the first matches scheduled for June 20 in the Italian top-flight.

It’s shaping up to be a fascinating end to Italy’s season, with Juventus and Lazio practically neck and neck clinching the Scudetto. Perennial champions Juve lead the table on 63 points, but the Rome club-which has n’t won the league under Sven-Goran Eriksson since 2000-is just one point behind.

However, without a key man, Juve could be forced to fight for the title after Higuain suffered a knock in Thursday’s training.

Argentina’s international Higuain had a muscle injury pulled up. On Twitter, Juventus said his injury didn’t seem too serious, but it would be monitored over the weekend.

They said: “During today’s training session, Gonzalo Higuain suffered a muscle strain in the back of his right thigh. J Medical tests have ruled out any infections, and his condition will be tracked in the coming days.”

Higuain, who returned to the first-team picture after ex-Blues manager Maurizio Sarri moved to Turin, has spent the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea and scored five goals in 23 Serie A appearances this season.

Title rivals Lazio also got scared on Thursday, key midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic picked up a knee injury-but in Italy reports say it’s just a blow and he just needs to rest for a few days.
