The international break has arrived, and Serie A will be on hiatus for almost two weeks, with Mercato reports dominating the headlines. The news is dominated by Hakan Calhanoglu, Gigio Donnarumma, and their respective contract renewals. Yesterday, the Turkish midfielder revealed that he supports Galatasaray, a team for whom he hopes to play one day. It was Donnarumma’s turn today.
So far, the Rossoneri have not extended Donnarumma’s contract, and many Italian, as well as French, newspapers have written on AC Milan’s involvement in Mike Maignan. The 25-year-old Lille midfielder is said to be Paolo Maldini’s main target to replace Gigio.
The Rossoneri’s administration, according to sources, is losing faith in the Italian goalkeeper. Gianluigi Donnarumma makes 6 million euros a season and will be a free agent in a few months. Milan has given him a new deal worth €7.5 million per year for the next five years, but Mino Raiola wants ten million and a shorter contract.
Maignan is quickly establishing himself as one of Europe’s top goalkeepers. He has 18 clean sheets this season, and his results have piqued the interest of several clubs. Donnarumma, on the other hand, continues to be an important figure for Milan. He insists on remaining but is reluctant to lower his economic demands.
AC Milan, through Mauro Suma, alluded to the Mike Maignan rumors. Suma writes, “Let us not get caught up in the normal speculations. As far as I hear, the Club is attempting to persuade Gigio to remain with us. Milan is not looking for additional goalkeepers“.
For the time being, it seems that Donnarumma’s extension is the only solution on the table for the Rossoneri.
