According to La Repubblica, the Italians’ status has been severely weakened after a 0-1 home loss to Benevento on Matchday 28 of Serie A. Pirlo’s results will be evaluated in the coming weeks. Juventus expects immediate improvements on several fronts, from play consistency to squad mentality. It should be remembered that Juventus is taking Pirlo’s inexperience, the tough circumstances in world football due to the coronavirus pandemic, and other factors into consideration.
As the season continues, the club is still far from making a decision about whether or not to shoot Pirlo. Resignation is only an option if Juve’s outcomes begin to deteriorate dramatically.
If Pirlo is fired during the season, Igor Tudor, the club’s new assistant manager, could take his place. The 42-year-old Croatian is Pirlo’s only experienced expert on his coaching staff. Juventus does not yet have a backup plan for the future, although there is a list of coaches the club is willing to approach if Pirlo is fired.
Former Turin coach Massimiliano Allegri has a strong friendship with sports director Fabio Paratici and vice-president Pavel Nedved.
The club will also consider Gian Piero Gasperini of Atalanta, Simone Inzaghi of Lazio, and former Inter and Roma head coach Luciano Spalletti. The club lacks the financial means to hire a top coach like Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp.
Andrea Pirlo’s future is in his hands, as Juventus president Andrea Agnelli appears to back the professional.
