Arsene Wenger called for the Uefa Nations League to be scrapped-and proposed that the European Championships and the World Cup should be held every other year instead.
The former Arsenal manager, who was named Fifa’s Manager of Global Football Growth in 2019, has suggested drastic changes to the international calendar to minimize fixture congestion.
The Frenchman maintains that fans do not understand the structure of the tournament, which was intended to provide foreign friendships with a competitive aspect.
Wenger claims that the World Cup or European Championship should be held on an annual basis, with all qualifying fixtures held within a month.
“We need to get rid of the League of Nations and find out more clearly what everyone understands,” said Bild.
“If you ask people on the street what the League of Nations is, you’re not going to meet a lot of people who can describe it. We need to have as aw events as we can. One World Cup and one European Championship every other year will possibly be better suited to the modern world.”
