Barcelona and the Brazilian national team midfielder Arthur insisted that he wants to stay with Barcelona in the midst of intense media speculation that has seen him connected to a number of clubs late. The 23-year-old has formed ties with Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, and Inter, who would like to receive him as part of a potential deal that would take Lautaro Martinez to Blaugrana club, as reported in various reports.
Midfielder Arthur Melo has confirmed that he intends to stay in Barcelona but sources have told ESPN that the team is open to listening to midfielder deals or using it as part of a player-exchange agreement.
Barca appreciates Arthur, who signed Gremio for €30 million in 2018, for approximately €60 million, and has been linked to both Tottenham and Juventus over the last few weeks.
The coronavirus pandemic is expected to have a long-lasting impact on the transfer market. “There will always be rumors around the transfer market, but my intentions are clear: remaining in Barcelona is the only choice that interests me,” he explained in a statement.
“Being in Barcelona is the only option that concerns me. I feel confident here and the team and the coaching staff appreciate their confidence in me. The supposed attention of big clubs is always inspiring and a strong sign but my mind has been playing for Barcelona for many years. I always wanted to be in this position. Speculation still remains but my idea is obvious,” said Arthur in a statement Wednesday.
Arthur is one of the stars they’d be able to hear ideas for, but the player maintains that he isn’t planning to leave Camp Nou he season.
Also a source close to Arthur, whose contract lasts until 2024, told ESPN that Barcelona promised the player they were willing to stay with him.
