The future of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi at Camp Nou has come under strong scrutiny over the past few months and reports have now suggested that during PSG’s interest in the forward, the Argentine and his family are learning French. When his deal with Barcelona expires in the summer, the Ligue 1 giants have made no secret of their intention to attract the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to the Parc des Princes. Sources close to Messi have, however, denied that the captain of Barcelona and his family are studying the French language, citing the reports as ‘fake.’

Just last week, PSG sports director Leonardo Araujo pointed out that Messi’s situation in Barcelona is being tracked by the club. In this transfer climate, PSG is also one of the few clubs alongside Man City that can afford Messi. His relations with PSG have only strengthened in recent weeks following the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, his compatriot, as boss. Canal+ has confirmed the player and his family are learning French with Messi still to confirm whether he will stay with the LaLiga giants or look for a new challenge.

Geoffroy Gautier, a French journalist, said, “Messi and all his family, his wife and kids are being taught, French. If he is going to sign for Manchester City, why is he going to study French? There’s no logic to this. This material, which I trust very much, is a very reliable source.”

Messi and his family are only fluent in Spanish after spending their lives between his native Argentina and Spain – playing the entirety of his career in Barcelona. In particular, the Barcelona captain is not fluent in other languages, while his wife, Antonella, and their three children are considered to be familiar with the English language.

Nevertheless, sources close to the family of Diario Sport and Messi have denied that either he or his family is studying any new language, saying that ‘fake’ is the story being circulated.
