As Eibar kept on for a point against a Barcelona team missing Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele came off the bench to score an equalizer.

Messi watched from the stands at Camp Nou after picking up a knock in Barca’s win over Real Valladolid before Christmas, and without the Argentine in the side, the Catalans failed to build a tonne.

After only eight minutes, however, when VAR was used to spot a foul on Ronald Araujo in the box, the hosts were presented with a golden opportunity to reach the net. However, Martin Braithwaite put his penalty wide of the mark.

When he swept home from a Junior Firpo cross for the first time, Braithwaite looked to have made amends, but VAR proved that when the pass was made and the goal was called out for offside, the Danish striker was ahead of the ball.

With Kike Garcia pinching the ball off Araujo and finishing past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Dmitrovic saved from Dembele, who was played clean through by Pedri, seconds before Eibar took a shock lead.

Barcelona replied, however, through Dembele, who converted after a pass to the back post by Firpo with his right foot. As Barca looked for a winner, Philippe Coutinho and Francisco Trincao were added, but Eibar kept on for a point that holds the Catalans in La Liga in the sixth position.
