The chiefs of Bayern Munich were annoyed by public comments made by their former president, Uli Hoeness, on David Alaba and ongoing contract negotiations with Austria International, as Goal can show.
The 28-year-old-who is considered one of Bayern’s most valuable players-has yet to agree on a new deal with the Bavarian giants, ending his current contract in 2021.
Alaba has played a key role in helping Hansi Flick’s side seal last season’s treble and the Champions League winners are naturally desperate to retain the versatile defender’s long-term services.
Indeed, with Alaba, Flick prepared a large part of his thoughts for the 2020-21 Bundesliga campaign, despite the Austrian being aligned with a move to Barcelona and Manchester City.
A disappointed Alaba, however, was forced to respond to comments made by former Bayern President Hoeness, who blamed Pini Zahavi, the player’s lawyer, and indicated that, because of his salary demands, talks are being held up.
