Bayern Munich allegedly had talks with the midfielder from Monchengladbach.
As players are not in action for clubs, the international break is also the time for transfer speculation to heat up. During these breaks, Bayern Munich is frequently connected with various matches. The winter market is only seven weeks away, so in such a hectic campaign, clubs will begin to outline plans for the squad.
The German champions have begun to lose players due to severe injuries. After sustaining an injury against Eintracht Frankfurt a fortnight ago, Alphonso Davies will not be playing again in 2020. After getting hurt in Der Klassiker, Joshua Kimmich is also expected to join Davies on the sidelines.
Kimmich is a key player in the central midfield for Hansi Flick, so in the next couple of months, he’ll be a big miss for the squad. Kimmich ‘s injury led to speculation about the signing of Denis Zakaria from Borussia Monchengladbach by Die Roten.
According to Sky Sports, Bayern had, on many occasions, held talks with the Zakaria agent. However, as he is recovering from a knee injury, a move to Bavaria in January is impossible for Zakaria. For the Swiss midfielder to sign, Die Roten will have to wait at least until next summer.
For Gladbach, Zakaria largely served as number six. In this place, the 23-year-old midfielder has impressed, drawing attention from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. For Swiss international, moving to Die Roten would be a tempting choice, but in the number six role, he is likely to be second fiddle to Kimmich.
Zakaria may end up playing a lot of games despite being second fiddle to Kimmich, as Javi Martinez will be leaving Munich next summer as his contract expires. As he has recently played whenever available for selection, Zakaria can help Kimmich to get some respite.
