Chelsea is keen to secure Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer, according to The Athletic, and the prospect of joining Frank Lampard ‘s side attracts the Cameroon international.
Recent months have seen regular communications between the Stamford Bridge outfit and goalie representatives and he could be qualified at £27 m.
Tottenham Hotspur has also been linked with Onana as they plan for the future, but it does not seem as if they have made any substantive moves yet.
Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, 33, has been able to do with strong competition and a potential long-term replacement and the Eredivisie star would be a good pick.
Since moving from Athletic Bilbao to Stamford Bridge in July 2018, Chelsea plans to get a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga who hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory.
The Spaniard is vulnerable to error and Onana is certainly a major improvement.
Barcelona was also linked to the 24-year-old, but he is not looking to return to the Catalan giants at the moment, with Andre Ter Stegen still the undisputed first choice.
Ajax isn’t in a rush to sell Onana and could remain with the Dutch giants for another season, so it’ll be interesting to see if Chelsea will lure him to the Premier League.
Next season’s qualification for the Champions League will play an enormous role in convincing the goalkeeper who plays the ball, and winning the next three league games is a must.
