Chelsea will try yet another raid on the Bundesliga according to Daily Mail with a bid for Bayer Leverkusen starlet Kai Havertz.
Chelsea also wants a young, wide player to replace the outgoing Brazilian Willian and Spaniard Pedro, who is expected to seal RB Leipzig center’s £53 m transfer to Timo Werner as the transfer window opens.
The 20-year-old Havertz is considered to be the player they want, while other top European clubs will face intense competition.
Havertz has scored five times in four games since resuming the Bundesliga and is on the radar of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Chelsea will have to invest heavily in winning the race, with Havertz’s market value set north at £75 m and the player under contract until 2022. They have already spent £ 38 m on attacking midfielder Ajax Hakim Ziyech. But the London club is eager to pull history on their rivals they feel neglected during the transfer embargo last summer.
Havertz has been in Leverkusen’s first team since he was 17, and has seven caps for Germany. He was important this season but left out of the squad on the weekend which lost 4-2 to Bayern at home.
Bayer Simon Rolfes’s sporting director said: ‘We don’t know what will happen to Kai yet.”We know all of the great clubs from Germany and Europe are after him, and that he can play anywhere.”
Chelsea is ready to shelve attempts to recruit a new goalkeeper this summer while evaluating several possible candidates following a formal dip leading to concerns about Kepa Arrizabalaga’s long-term future.
And if they can regain at least the bulk of the world record they spent two years ago signing him, they can transfer Frank Lampard ‘s side from the Spaniard on. This seems unlikely considering the shortlist of top clubs looking for a new No 1. this summer.
Lampard kept the Spaniard out for six consecutive games in January and February following a loss of form but regained his manager’s confidence to receive a reminder of their two games before the football suspension, holding clean sheets against Liverpool and Everton in Chelsea’s wins.
Andre Onana is one goalkeeper who dreams of a Premier League move and is linked to Chelsea.
The Ajax goalkeeper will be leaving Amsterdam this summer and would be keen to join Ziyech at Stamford Bridge.
But, despite the volatility of the post-Coronavirus transfer market, the Cameroon international, priced at around £27 m and having two years left on its current contract, is willing to stay for another season at the Dutch giants.
