Manchester City will praise striker Sergio Agüero, who announced his exit from the club at the end of the season today, for his contributions to the team’s history.

Manchester City president Khaldoon Al Mubarak has announced that a monument celebrating the Argentine striker will be erected next to the club’s home stadium. The club has previously lauded the performances of David Silva and Vincent Kompany, whose statues are currently in the works.

Also, a special mosaic celebrating Agüero will be placed at City’s academy.

“It is difficult to overstate Sergio Aguero’s contribution to Manchester City’s culture over the last ten years. He is a hero that will be revered by everyone who loves our club and maybe even by those who only enjoy football,” Al Mubarak said on the club’s official website.

“The time for farewell speeches and final words has not yet arrived. We can also do a lot with the time we have with Sergio. We look forward to his commitment to the upcoming challenges.

In the meantime, it gives me immense pleasure to announce that we will commission a statue of Sergio, which will stand next to the Silva and Kompany figures that are currently being worked on in our stadium. We look forward to bidding Sergio goodbye at the end of the season.”
