Italian football will return with semi-final second leg matches in Coppa Italia on June 12, Vincenzo Spadafora, the country’s sports minister has confirmed.

The first legs of the last four ties were held back in February, with Milan and Juventus playing a 1-1 draw at the same venue in San Siro and Napoli winning a 1-0 over Inter.

The coronavirus outbreak saw all of Italy’s football canceled indefinitely in March, but the action is set to get back on track later this month after lockdown restrictions across the country have been eased.

On June 12, Juventus and Milan will play their second leg match, along with Napoli and Inter meeting on June 17 the day after. The matches will take place just days later before the final takes place.

After returning to training, the remaining four teams raised concerns over the June 17 final, with limited time to prepare after three months away from the pitch, but the date was not changed.

The semi-final ties were originally scheduled for June 13 and 14, but the government has accepted Serie A’s request to move the two fixtures forward by an extra day.

The showpiece event will be held at Stadio Olimpico, where the Coppa Italia trophy has spent the last year following Lazio ‘s victory over Atalanta in the final of 2019.

Series A is expected to resume on June 20, three days after the final, with Juventus currently in pole position to win the Scudetto for an unprecedented ninth season in succession.

The Italian top-flight will be the fourth of the top five major leagues in Europe to resume amid the continuing coronavirus threat, as the Bundesliga was the first to restart on May 18.
