After defeat to Osasuna, Leo Messi was disappointed that Barça’s LaLiga hopes had ended. His criticism of post-matching felt it had targeted Quique Setien and the present method.
“We ‘re going to fail Napoli if we start like this,” Messi said, and it created chaos within the hierarchy of Barça.
But after the victory over Alaves, there was a very different tone from the club captain. What changed in those days?
According to Catalunya Radio (via Sport.es), Messi and Setien met Saturday to make the air talks open. A meeting was called for by the head coach, who had recently met with president Josep Maria Bartomeu. That took 30 minutes to win Messi over for his vision and plans for the future. It has worked. The players also met in the locker room after having lost to Osasuna to discuss matters ahead of the Champions League return.
They responded with a 5-0 victory over Alaves. So all that needs to be seen is that this reconciliation agreement on 8 August between Messi and Setien produces the right outcome against Napoli.
