Pep Guardiola jokingly said that the main reason behind the success of Manchester City as the club continued its unbeaten run was money.
After winning over Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday, City has now won 19 games in all competitions.
Guardiola and his City side are currently top of the Premier League thanks to their recent run and are one step closer to a place in the Champions League quarter-finals thanks to a 2-0 victory on Wednesday.
“We have a lot of money to buy a lot of great players,” Guardiola said when asked how his team had won 19 in a row at his post-match press conference.
He went on to add: “It’s real.” We can not do it without good quality players. This group’s humanity… the players are amazing and they have an excellent friendship. They play every game, thinking they’re just winning the game.
“Enjoy the night today, and then dream of West Ham. When people talk about the second leg, it’s three weeks before the second leg, so now the next goal is West Ham. That is all that I am worried about.
Manchester City has spent nearly £ 2 billion ($ 2.8 billion) over the last 20 years as the club has rocketed into perennial contenders on both the domestic and European levels.
Since Guardiola took charge in 2016, the club has invested over £ 500m ($ 707m), investing in players like Ilkay Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez.
However, since the Catalan’s arrival, City’s biggest overhaul has come in defense, taking in recent years Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Nathan Ake, and Benjamin Mendy.
