Inter Milan confirmed winger Ashley Young returned a positive coronavirus test.
The Serie A side reported that the former Manchester United player was still in quarantine following the Covid-19 tests carried out on Saturday at the Appiano Gentile training ground of the club.
Young has played a part in all three Italian top-flight games so far for the men of Antonio Conte, becoming the sixth club player to have contracted the virus.
There is now growing concerned in Italy that the AC Milan derby-which is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. UK time-cannot be played.
Conte’s men are also scheduled to launch their Champions League campaign against the Bundesliga outfit Borussia Moenchengladbach on Wednesday.
Inter Milan teammate Alessandro Bastoni tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week in the face of the growing concern of rising Series A cases.
Bastoni was then joined by Milan Skriniar-a goal for Tottenham in the summer transfer window-after the Slovak Football Association reported its positive test on the eve of their victory against the Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2020 semi-final playoff on Thursday.
