Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta spoke of the situation involving Captain Lionel Messi of Blaugrana.
“Messi wants to stay in Barcelona, I’m sure. It all depends on the offer he gets from the new president. He wants to see that the love story between Barca and the Champions League can be resurrected as a competitive team. In recent years, it has been put on pause,” Laporta told ESPN.
The club lied to him constantly and, on top of that, things didn’t go the way everyone wanted. In his career, Messi is at a stage where he still wants to be good and win trophies.
“He cannot continue to accept that other teams have won the Champions League and Barca does not have a sufficiently competitive squad to win the tournament, with Lionel, the best player in the history of football.”
