Jurgen Klopp has sent a transfer notice ahead of Liverpool’s crucial match against fifth-placed Chelsea on Thursday. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the club would struggle to attract new players if it did not compete in the Champions League.

According to Goal, Klopp said, “The main reason for qualifying for the Champions League is always financial. It’s a fantastic league to play in, but it’s about [financials] for the club. Sure, you want to pique the interest of some players. We were sitting with some players who had offers from clubs in the Champions League at the start, and it was like, ‘Well, sorry, we can only give nothing or the Europa League!’

“Aside from that, it’s always about money. This year, there isn’t much of a difference, in my opinion. I hope people still see that we give it our all and do all we can to make it happen, but we’ll see how it turns out.”

“The owners did not call me and say, ‘If you don’t qualify for the Champions League, then this or that will happen because we are all together.’ We’re both aware of the situation. They are well aware that we will do everything possible to qualify for the Champions League once more.”
