For four games to bit Lecce’s Giulio Donati, Lazio defender Patric was suspended today.
The Investigative Commission pronounced its decision on Patric ‘s madness this afternoon.
The former Barcelona stopper bit Donati’s wrist in the 2-1 loss to Lecce, resulting in a late red card although his rival has already forgiven him.
He said after the match to ANSA: “He didn’t do anything to me and immediately apologized, so bear that in mind. I live with emotions as well so I understand Patric why he did what he did in such a hard-fought game. Patric apologized immediately afterward. His action was punished with a red, rightly so, but it did not hurt me. So I would ask people to think long and hard before they judge him. Unlike Bonazzoli who didn’t even apologize [for his kick], the Lazio player has done things right. That is saddening for me.’
In addition to being fined €10,000, he will miss the upcoming Series A matches for Lazio against Sassuolo, Udinese and Cagliari, plus the possible title-decider for Juventus.
In sharp contrast, Luis Suarez was given a 10-match Premier League ban and a four-month global suspension for biting respectively Branislav Ivanovic and Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini.
The English FA has today suspended Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier for four games after an altercation with a supporter earlier in the season.
