With Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, and Xherdan Shaqiri all participating in full training on Wednesday, Jurgen Klopp was given a timely boost ahead of Liverpool’s busy winter schedule. Since October’s bad-tempered Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, where Virgil van Dijk also sustained a devastating ACL injury, Thiago has been out with a knee problem.
For the first time last month, the 29-year-old Spain international was pictured doing individual work at the training ground in Liverpool and has stepped up his rehab over the last few weeks, to return in the new year.
Milner, 34, missed the last six games of the Premier League champions because of a thigh injury, while Shaqiri, 29, has been unavailable since mid-November.
Klopp said he expected the trio to be back in full training this week and is likely to include another update ahead of this weekend’s battle of the league leaders with West Brom. The match on Sunday is just too early for crooked Liverpool stars Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota, and Konstantinos Tsimikas, all of whom are dealing with knee injuries.
