Former Inter defender Lucio praised Antonio Conte’s team, saying they had “all the credentials to break Juventus’ reign” in Italy, and praised Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lucio joined Inter on a free transfer after a fruitful spell at Bayern Munich, and he helped the Nerazzurri to the Treble in 2009-10.

However, the Brazilian has spent one season at Juventus under new Inter coach Conte, winning the Scudetto with the Bianconeri as well.

“I watch fewer games than I would like, but Inter now has all the qualifications to break Juventus’ dominance,” Lucio told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“It’s odd to see [Antonio] Conte on the Nerazzurri bench, but results are what matters in football, and he’s getting them. It’s odd to see [Antonio] Conte on the Nerazzurri bench, but results are what matters in football, and he’s getting them. He focuses hard on the physical side, Inter can move from defense to offense, and they have a couple of exceptional strikers. I hope [captain Samir] Handanovic and his squad will achieve the same goals that my Inter have over the years.”

Romelu Lukaku has impressed since joining Inter from Manchester United, and the former Brazil international praised the Belgians for their “physical ability.”

“He has incredible physical stamina, which he shares with the team,” Lucio said. “He reminds me a little bit of former Chelsea star Didier Drogba and a little bit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. If you want to hinder him by throwing your body in the way, you’re toast. He crushes any rival, and the only way to avoid him is to intercept or mark him hands-on.”

Lucio, who announced his retirement in January 2020, has turned 42 and confirmed he is looking for jobs in football.

“After I retired, I committed myself to my family,” the former defender explained. “I agree that my time on the field, both with my club and with the national team, is a valuable legacy that should be passed on elsewhere. I want to get back into football.”
