Borussia Monchengladbach announced that during the summer, Borussia Dortmund would be represented under the leadership of Marco Rose.
Dortmund was on the hunt for a new manager after dismissing Lucien Favre in December and was closely associated with Rose, who received many admirers for his work with Salzburg and Gladbach, who this season led the last 16th to the Champions League.

It was confirmed over the weekend that Dortmund was close to recruiting him, and those rumors gained steam on Monday when Kicker said he had agreed to initiate a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave in the summer.

Now, in a statement on their website, Gladbach has officially announced his departure.

Sporting director Max Eberl said: “In the past few weeks, we’ve had many discussions with each other about the future of Marco. Unfortunately, he has now agreed that in his deal, which lasts until June 2022, he would like to use a clause and move over to Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

If the terms laid down in his contract are fulfilled on time, he will no longer be at our disposal after the end of the season.

Until then we will mobilize all our strengths together with Marco to achieve our goals in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup, and the Champions League.”
