According to reports, former Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez is recovering after suffering a heart attack at the age of 36.
According to AS, the retired winger is in a hospital in Chile, where he is responding to treatment.
“The love of my life, my soul mate, what a shock you have brought me,” Gonzalez’s wife Maura Rivera is quoted as saying on her Instagram account.
“It’s been a nightmare the last few nights. It’s been a terrifying few days riddled with confusion.
“I’m writing this because you’re still here with us – and a little stronger – and that, in many respects, the fact that you’re still here with us makes us cherish every moment we have together, family, and, most importantly, life itself. It’s crazy how easily things can shift from one moment to the next.
“Life can surprise and challenge us, instilling fear, but we can overcome all obstacles with confidence, strength, and hope.
“Mark, I want you to stay with me forever.”
Gonzalez joined Liverpool in October 2005, but the club was unable to secure a work permit for him, so he was loaned to Real Sociedad.
The following season, he was given this, and he went on to make 36 appearances for the team.
The following summer, he was granted his appeal, and he went on to make 36 appearances for the Reds, scoring three goals, before returning to Spain to join Real Betis in 2007.
