Lionel Messi does not think it would be feasible for Barcelona to afford to get Neymar back to the club.
Neymar has been regularly linked with a return to Camp Nou and a reunion with Messi after making a world record €222 million moves to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
But such a move has yet to come to fruition, and with Barca’s present financial woes, the return of Neymar’s storybook seems to be a long way off.
The Brazilian recently expressed his desire to play next season alongside Messi again, although it is unknown where that reunion will take place.
Messi acknowledged, speaking to La Sexta, that his new side probably did not have the funds to bring back the Brazilian.
“How do you pay Paris for the transfer?” asked Messi. It’s not easy. For the new president, it’s going to be a tough situation. He’s going to have to be strategic, get things in order, and make several improvements to make it go well.
“It will also be difficult to bring in players because we need the money and there is no money. There are several important current players we need to fight again for everything and you have to pay them.”
“On Neymar’s recent statement that he wants to be Messi’s team-mate again, he added, “He didn’t say, ‘Let’s play,’ he said, ‘I would like to play,’ he said, ‘I would like to play,’ right?
Yes, from time to time, we talk. The three of us, either with him or every day with Luis [Suarez]. We retain the relationship.
Another Messi partnership that has attracted speculation includes Antoine Griezmann after the uncle of the French star hit the Argentine last month.
