Spectators remain absent in LaLiga matches, with Lionel Messi stating that the lack of atmosphere leads to closer contests. Lionel Messi is looking forward to football going back to normal after saying it is “horrible” to play games without fans inside stadiums. This was also the case for the previous campaign to end, meaning that Messi did not play in front of supporters at Camp Nou because LaLiga was paused in March.
“It’s horrible to play without fans. It’s not a nice feeling,” Messi told Marca after picking up the Pichichi award for finishing as the top scorer of the LaLiga in 2019-20.
“Not seeing someone at the stadium makes it like preparation, because at the beginning it takes a lot to get into the game. That’s why we have games like that. It’s very difficult to win whomever you play against. The pandemic has caused a lot of change in football, and for the worse. We see it in games. After all, hopefully, this is over, we can get people back into the stadiums to get back to normal.”
