Robert Moreno, former assistant to Luis Enrique at Barcelona and new Monaco boss, claims to learn that Neymar is being sought back in the next transfer window at Camp Nou.
Rumors connecting international Brazil with a retracing of his steps to Catalunya emerged almost as soon as he connected in a record-breaking contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
Three years were spent in the French capital, but Barca remains keen to return to familiar surroundings a longtime favorite.
So far, those attempts have come to nothing, but momentum is expected to renew.
Moreno says that’s going to be the case, with the ex-Spain boss acknowledging that he can understand why the Blaugrana would want to re-sign a player he once worked with under Luis Enrique during a glittering period of success.
Moreno told El Transistor that he would re-sign Neymar for Barcelona.
“At the end of the day, Barcelona needs to get the best players in the world, and Neymar is one of them, a player who makes the difference. I think they want him for sure,” added Moreno.
Moreno is currently keeping an eye on Camp Nou activities from afar, focusing on a high-profile Monaco post.
Their preparation for 2019-20 was unexpectedly suspended, with the decision not to resume competitive play in Ligue 1 amid the coronavirus pandemic taking place.
The call has not been widely well-received, leaving Monaco with a ninth-place finish, but Moreno is trying to take positives from a test situation.
He added: “On the one hand, we didn’t like it because we didn’t agree on the standings and we were left out of Europe, but it gave some assurance because [the French Government] extended the measures [of banning sport] until July.” That allows us to start the pre-season in July and start the league at the end of August.
