Until the end of the 2021-22 season, Manchester City has officially not ruled out the prospect of keeping Sergio Aguero on the Etihad books.
Although currently sidelined by a knee injury, Aguero enjoyed another productive season with the People, scoring 23 goals in all competitions.
Aguero was tipped to transfer back to his native Argentina and join Independiente boyhood club for the final stages of his career, with the latest Argentine contract at the Etihad set to expire next summer.
Nevertheless, the Mirror says City is open to giving Aguero a new deal if he can maintain his goal-scoring system in the coming season.
While in the wake of Aguero ‘s injury Gabriel Jesus has enjoyed a consistent run in the team, the report claims the Brazilian has yet to convince Pep Guardiola that he can fill Aguero’s boots in the long run.
Aguero has scored 254 goals in 370 appearances for City and won the Premier League trophy on four occasions, since arriving at Manchester from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
