A new four-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly expected to be signed by Neymar.
In 2017, the Brazilian joined PSG from Barcelona and has at times seemed to have a fractured relationship with the club.
He spoke about his new-found happiness this week, however, and his intention to pursue his career in Paris.
Brazilian journalist Marcelo Bechler, who broke the news that Neymar was expected to sign for PSG, is now claiming that a fresh agreement is very near and could be confirmed later this week.
Mauricio Pochettino, who was announced last month as head coach of PSG, said that Neymar is confident and Kylian Mbappe will both remain at the club.
And Neymar, who has scored three goals in his last two games, seems to be happier than he was in the past, possibly because of Pochettino’s appointment.
“I’m very pleased here, I want to stay at PSG and I hope (Kylian) Mbappe wants to stay here too. That’s the dream of all the fans, of course, that we want PSG to be a great team and that I want to keep doing what I do here, play football and be content with it. Today I’m very happy, I feel happy, a lot has changed, I can’t exactly say why, if it’s me or something else.”
Maxime Dupuis of Eurosport France says that the article on Neymar’s extension is not shocking.
“The source is reliable because Marcelo Bechler was the first to report he would sign to PSG in 2017. It’s not a big surprise, we knew Paris was looking for an extension and the player was open to it. He recently said that he was happy in Paris.”
Neymar, whose new contract with PSG is due to expire next year, came close to leaving when he supposedly submitted a transfer request in the summer of 2019 and then showed up late for pre-season training.
He has had some setbacks with former PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel, who, after being sacked by PSG in late December, is now in charge of Chelsea.
