Werner was originally linked with a move to Bavarian giants Bayern Munich, a club renowned for poaching the best of the rest from the German top tier, but has flirted more than once with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s European champions in more recent times. Leipzig managed to hold on to their star striker following Bayern’s advances last summer but the feeling now is that it is only a matter of time before Werner seeks a new challenge on the continent.

Werner was initially tied to a transfer to Bavarian giants Bayern Munich, a club famous for recruiting the best of the rest of the German top tier, but recently flirted more than once with a transfer to European champions Jurgen Klopp.

Anfield seems to be the 24-year-old’s favorite destination, which Olmo referred to as an ‘airplane’ in the past, but the former youth of Barcelona thinks his free-scoring team-mate will be better served by remaining in place.

“He ‘s giving you plenty of choices because he likes to run around the field. He’s so fast and he’s got the killer instinct-this season he’s scored a lot. He is a player who gives you a lot of chances with the way he plays. I assume Leipzig and the Bundesliga are the places he suits best. Wherever he is, he is doing pretty well, Olmo said in an exclusive interview with Goal.

Although the young center-back deal includes a €60 million release clause, the player’s agent believes that most teams may handle too much because of the financial consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. There is no chance, however, that Leipzig will not be able to lose the 21-year-old on a free transfer, with his contract only going until 2021.

Whether Upamecano will travel as the market is reopening remains to be seen, but Olmo has, all the same, enjoyed his experience alongside the player he calls ‘France’s future.’
