Pep Guardiola has confirmed that he has a full squad to choose from for Tuesday’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, except Nathan Ake, who is still injured.
Despite starting individual training in recent days, the summer signing from Bournemouth has been out with a muscle injury since the Boxing Day match against Newcastle and has struggled with his rehabilitation.
However, this is unlikely to have a major impact on Manchester City’s team, with Pep Guardiola reporting that he already has a full complement of players, except the Dutchman.
That will come as a relief to many City fans, who were concerned about Sergio Aguero’s fitness after he was substituted shortly after the hour mark against West Ham on Saturday. The decision to replace him, however, was announced as part of a plan to bring the player back to full fitness in time for the final months of the season.
After Saturday’s win, Pep Guardiola addressed Eric Garcia, another of the central defenders who have seen very little first-team action outside of cup matches.
According to Guardiola, “You may not realize it, but Eric Garcia means a great deal to me. He reminds me of a kid. He was the best central defender we had during lockdown last season. He never, ever, ever made a mistake. He participated in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.”
“I assume he will play in Barcelona… Barcelona does not purchase players because they are average; rather, they are top players. He has not been picked for Manchester City in the last two games, which has broken my heart. He isn’t worthy of such treatment “, he said as he hung up the call.
