New Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino needs to enjoy himself on the field with “special player” Kylian Mbappé, which might help him recover his best form.
This season, Mbappé has 12 goals in 14 Ligue 1 matches but has not been at the height of his powers in the face of burnout concerns.
Pochettino said the 22-year-old needed to change after PSG had a 1-1 draw at Saint-Étienne in Wednesday’s first Argentinean game in charge.
Pochettino was asked, before facing Brest in his first home game since replacing Thomas Tuchel on Saturday, if forward Mbappé still seemed tired.
“It is a question about a special player. After the break, he came back in good condition, in a really good frame of mind. He’s the top title scorer. We hope he’ll have fun and discover the success he’s capable of.
Former Tottenham manager Pochettino, who will again be without star forward Neymar, is looking forward to returning to Parc des Princes, where he played from 2001 until 2003.
“It’s going to be a special night and a joy, yes, 20 years after wearing this jersey,” he said. Unfortunately, no fans are going to be there, it’s a shame and it’s going to be missing.
