Today, Raphael Varane tested positive for COVID-19.

Raphael Varane, who tested positive for COVID-19, will miss Real Madrid’s first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool on Tuesday night.

ZINEDINE ZIDANE’S NEW HEADHEACH

With Sergio Ramos now out hospitalized, Zinedine Zidane has a new headache on his hands.

Varane, who is already isolating himself and taking the requisite precautions, will also be unavailable for Saturday’s Clasico against Barcelona at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano and the second leg against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday, April 14.

The Frenchman did not practice with his Real Madrid teammates on Monday night because he was waiting for proof of the positive result, which came on Tuesday morning.

Varane has missed only three games this season and has played a vital role in Los Blancos’ recent good form, but the fact that he will now be absent for both legs of the Champions League against Liverpool, as well as the Clasico, is a massive blow.

In Varane’s absence, Zidane’s only choice at center-back is Nacho Fernandez. Nacho holds one yellow card from suspension in LaLiga Santander and Eder Militao.

At the end of January, Nacho suspended for 12 days after contracting Covid.

Meanwhile, Varane, Eden Hazard, Dani Carvajal, and Ramos will miss Tuesday’s game against Liverpool.

The 27-year-old is Real Madrid’s sixth player to sign COVID-19, following Militao, Hazard, Casemiro, Luka Jovic, and Nacho.

The Frenchman tested positive for the coronavirus in the morning, according to the Madrid club.

Sergio Ramos, who is healing from an injury, will also be absent from today’s game.

Nacho and Eder Militao, both central defenders for Real Madrid, are on the team’s roster for the game.

Neither Ramos nor Varane will play in the match against Barcelona on April 10.
