Mikel Arteta has stated that Rob Holding is now set to stay at Arsenal, who was expected to join Newcastle United on a loan.
Holding was closely linked to a move to Newcastle as Arsenal looked to collect funds for transfer and reduce the number of center halves in their squad.
However, Holding started the season’s opening game at Fulham and delighted the defender with a 3-0 win to leave Arteta ruling out a departure.
“I said to him, ‘Change your mind, for you don’t go anywhere,'” he said.
“Rob is another who stands at the football club for any benefit we want. He’s had a very rough time but he’s educated and why should I let him go? He’s already playing, what else do you want?”
Arteta expressed his desire for positive news on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ‘s deal “in the next few days” after the victory at Craven Cottage.
The Gabon striker scored the Gunners’ third at Fulham and has now reached 55 Premier League goals since his debut on February 4, 2018, which is more than any other player in the competition at the time.
In recent months, however, the future of the 31-year-old has been the topic of intense speculation, with his deal expiring in 20201.
Arteta confirmed this week that Arsenal fans should feel “pretty good” about the future of the player and on Saturday he suggested again that an optimistic update is around the corner.
