Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter is in critical yet stable condition in a hospital.

“The news was announced to Blick by his daughter Corinne, saying: “My father is in the hospital and is getting better every day. He needs time to rest.

“On behalf of my family, I ask for privacy”.

According to news, Blatter’s state of health is considered extreme, but he is not thought to be in a life-threatening situation.

This is not the first time that the 84-year-old was hospitalized, and in November 2015 and July 2016, the Swiss experienced health issues.

In 2015, former FIFA President Blatter was suspended from office after 17 years in charge of the governing body of world football.

Following an investigation into systemic corruption at FIFA under his stewardship, Blatter was barred from all football activity for six years.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Blatter approved payments worth over $2 million to Michel Platini, then the European football manager, which amounted to “undue gifts” and thus breached the code of ethics of FIFA.

The men were banned for eight years, originally. In February 2016, FIFA’s appeals committee shortened the bans to six years.

The inquiry by the FIFA Ethics Committee likened Blatter, who dismissed all allegations against him, to “the inquisition”

In December 2016, Blatter lost a CAS appeal against the suspension.
