Danny Ings tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month and could have been infectious when he scored the winning goal against Liverpool on Monday 4 January, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl reported.
The England striker is on the 10th day of isolation (on Thursday) and will possibly miss the game at Leicester on Saturday.
Early in their last game, Ings scored against his old club with a brilliant lob, but Hasenhüttl says he may have been carrying coronavirus, having returned to the positive test shortly after the game.
The match was missed by goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, as he had Covid-19 too. That’s why it was agreed by the Premier League to let us play football. Part of football is a duel for me, part of football celebrates when you score a goal, and I believe that the protocols and experience we have made so far prove that it works.
