Thiago Silva claimed that he rejected a last-ditch invitation to stay at Paris Saint-Germain after having already accepted an offer from Chelsea.
“To say the truth, this started during the time of lockdown,” Silva told Talksport at his Chelsea unveiling, reflecting on his departure from PSG.
“Leonardo contacted me and asked me to extend for two months my deal to cover the Champions League finals.”
“I said, ‘Okay, no problem,’ because I wanted to stay with the group until the end and finish the stuff that I started with. In the two months that followed the Champions League, I thought I would not be there anymore.”
“I spoke to my agent about this, and we looked at other options for my future, and after we had meetings with Leonardo, we returned to Paris after the Champions League final, and I told him about my plans and explored the chance to stay.”
“But on the Monday morning after that, I had already given Chelsea the Okay, and I made that decision. I am deeply grateful, however, to PSG for what they have done for my life and the life of my family.”
“But I’m at a new club and project where I’m highly motivated and prepared for this new chance in the Premier League. I want to contribute as much as possible to the young players who have great potential here.”
