According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Manchester City ‘s interest in Bournemouth center-back Nathan Ake has grown, and early talks have been held on a potential contract.

Although Liverpool pipped them to the prize this season, Pep Guardiola ‘s side will look to launch a stronger title challenge next year, and hiring a top defender is high on their agenda.

Tottenham Hotspur still needs Ake according to Daily Express.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho wants to shore up his leaky defense and president Daniel Levy is said to be open to spending £40 m on the Bournemouth star.

Chelsea is still keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old yet Man. The city was leading the chase and they were running the law over him ahead of the winter transfer window.

Bournemouth asked about signing on loan for the next season of the recent one of City’s youths, and the former champions were willing to give the player and a sum of money to Ake in return.

The city has since been linked to Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan, Mykola Matviyenko of Shakhtar Donetsk, Dan-Axel Zagadou of Borussia Dortmund, and Kalidou Koulibaly of Naples. Failure to replace Vincent Kompany dealt a huge blow to Guardiola’s chances of defending the title.

Who’s going to be signed remains to be seen but Ake seems to be the most likely option, and if 18th-placed Bournemouth doesn’t stop the drop he’s going to move on.
