In their opening fixture, Zinedine Zidane’s side met a team of Shakhtar Donetsk who had run out of coronavirus and lost 3-2 after 3-0. In what was potentially the group’s easiest fixture, it was a disastrous start for Real. But things got worse on Tuesday.
After winning El Clasico on the weekend, Los Blancos would have traveled to Germany to face Borussia Monchengladbach with confidence.
After an hour, however, the faith would have vanished as two of Marcus Thuram’s goals took the home side 2-0 ahead.
Real stared at two losses out of two, with a double-header coming up against Inter Milan. However, two goals saved the Spanish side in the last few minutes. First, Karim Benzema scored 87 minutes ahead of Casemiro’s 93rd-minute equalizer.
Zidane’s side rescued the stage. But it’s not all well with the Spanish champions.
During their El Clasico win on Saturday, cameras caught Isco criticizing Zidane’s use of him, saying, “If he’s got to take me off, it’s in the 50th or 60th minute of the game. Sometimes it’s half time. If he’s got to take me on, it’s in the 80th minute.”
Now, the cameras allegedly picked up something much more serious halfway through their draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.
According to news, Benzema spoke to Ferland Mendy and complained about Vinicius Jr.
He said, “Play it to me. He [Vinicius] is playing against us in my mom’s life.
What makes it worse is that Vinicius is right here in the earshot, but Benzema is speaking in French, and he doesn’t care if the Brazilian can hear him.
The seasoned striker should know much better than insulting a young 20-year-old, even though he’s not playing well. Benzema should be supporting him, not asking other players to avoid throwing the ball on to him.
