Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso said he doesn’t know whether his last chance to save the job will be the Juventus match. ‘The club has to ask you’.
The coach admitted his men suffered in the first half after the Coppa Italia exit against Atalanta on Wednesday, but was delighted with the Azzurri players’ enthusiasm in the second.
It ended at the Gewiss Stadium with a 3-1 loss and the next match is in Serie A against Juventus.
It could be a decisive appointment for the former Milan coach, reports in Italy say, but Gattuso stressed that he does not think of the Cup game as the ‘penultimate’ in charge of the Partenopei.
“You gotta ask the club, I don’t know,” he said.
“I am the captain of the ship, and when things go wrong, they are at the captain’s expense. I can’t think of it as a penultimate or last resort, I have to work and I have to be able to have faith. I’m a mentor, that’s the way it is. I’m not going to be the first, nor the last, but I have a responsibility to try until the end.”
