Zlatan Ibrahimovic has rolled back the years to give Milan a 2-1 win over 10-man Sassuolo with a two-goal display on Tuesday night. There was also activity involving off-field Milan as it emerged that Ralf Rangnick would not be taking over at San Siro next season, with Stefano Pioli now holding the reins.
Gianluigi Donnarumma made his 200th appearance in Milan tonight against Sassuolo who benched Jeremie Boga and was the key defenders without Gian Marco Ferrari and Vlad Chiriches.
The Rossoneri lost fellow stoppers to knocking Andrea Conti and Alessio Romagnoli in the first half and looked in for a long night.
Nonetheless, they punished Sassuolo for some bad play out the back, and Ibrahimovic sent a diving header past Andrea Consigli from Hakan Calhanoglu’s precise cross.
When the VAR adjudicated Calhanoglu to have handballed, Sassuolo was able to equalize and Caputo made no mistake at the penalty spot.
Thankfully, Calhanoglu was able to spot Ibrahimovic ‘s run for Milan and the striker defied his 38 years, rounding off Andrea Consigli with aplomb.
This was immediately followed by Sassuolo going down to ten men when Mehdi Bourabia lunged in recklessly to Ante Rebic for a second yellow.
