As the starting date for the next Bundesliga season, Germany is eyeing 18 September.
The German Football League, which governs the top two men’s divisions, said on Wednesday that it had to find a timetable that would conform to UEFA staging the remainder of the August Champions League and Europa League this season as mini-tournaments.
The season 2020-21 will end in time for the European Championship, which has been moved back one year in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic and will begin on June 11, 2021.
The league has said it is now asking for feedback from clubs. One point of debate is whether to have a shorter winter break or more mid-week games, whose potential number is limited by the TV contracts for the team.
Last month, Bayern Munich won his eighth straight Bundesliga title after the German league resumed in May during the pandemic and Saturday ended. On 28 August, the league said, the second division could begin its 2020-21 season.
Since the restart, every Bundesliga game has been played without fans. Clubs are keen on at least some fans returning to the stadiums in the new season, but the league has not yet given any news on that.
