Roberto De Zerbi: I didn’t think twice once offered the Brighton job

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi revealed that he didn’t think twice once he was offered the Brighton job. De Zerbi calls Brighton a “serious” club and is a serious coach. Just seven years after their first Premier League game, the Seagulls have persuaded one of Europe’s most promising young coaches to take over, which is a clear indication that things have been going well on the south coast. Given his experience at Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk, De Zerbi’s appointment feels like a natural continuation, perhaps in time evolution, of the possession-based, pleasing-to-the-eye footballing culture Potter developed over four years at the Amex Stadium. However, De Zerbi may not want to involve his players in ballet as Potter has in the past – although we didn’t ask.

“Brighton is already performing at a high level, in my opinion. If we’re talking about the club’s structure, they have a serious chairman, serious CEO, and serious sporting director, and Brighton has some excellent players,” Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi said. “They already share a mindset similar to mine, so I didn’t need to second-guess my decision to accept Brighton’s offer. I was seeking a club that could provide me with the same opportunity and ideal circumstances to carry on in my style. In the past, I have selected teams that can allow me to work in this circumstance in this manner.”

De Zerbi has been learning English for less than a month, yet despite this, he speaks clearly and honestly, and when he wishes, he can effectively convey his ideas in English. What you see is what you get is the guiding principle that has guided both his personal philosophy and his tactical convictions throughout his managing career. In fact, he maintains, it’s the most crucial component. When it comes to his goals, or perhaps dreams, for Brighton, he does not want to stake his reputation on any details like other managers do. Even then, he jumps right into the specifics of his justification.
