Louis Saha says that Marcus Rashford and Kylian Mbappe are the same skills-wise-the Frenchman simply took advantage of his situation.
Around the same time, both young forwards burst into the scene, but unlike Rashford, Mbappe has gone on to win big trophies-including World Cups. It is for this reason that Mbappe is considered ability-wise ahead of Rashford.
But Saha believes that the players are very close, and had Rashford played for a team like Paris Saint-German-as opposed to a club in transition, like Manchester United-then he would still have his name honored.
Saha told Compare.bet: “They are both very fast players, having the technical ability to get out of situations where two or three defenders surround them. Marcus and Kylian are very close in terms of positions. They tend to play big, but they have also played top. The strength of Kylian is that he’s always, all the time, very direct. He feels no twice. You have to give him the ball when he makes runs, he is so fast. We also saw this kind of directness from Rashford. When he started, he was asking questions from the defenders-are you fast enough and good enough to keep me quiet for 90 minutes?
“They are certainly in the same category in terms of price. Mbappe managed to gain greater consistency and approach the game without worrying too much. With United, Rashford was part of a transitional team so he couldn’t express himself. He had to be a leader when it might not have been his strength at first. He had to develop attributes, not his initial emphasis would have been,” he added.
He went on saying: “Mbappe took advantage of this because he was able to compete with top-level PSG stars, and he was able to gain confidence and try new stuff, an opportunity that Rashford hasn’t had up until now.”
