According to Sky in Germany, Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams could join German side Bayer Leverkusen on loan next month.
On-loan full-back Santiago Arias of Leverkusen sustained a broken leg while playing for the national team of Colombia and are looking to add depth to their squad in January. Die Werkself is second in the Bundesliga, heading the Christmas break, just two points behind defending champions Bayern Munich.
Leverkusen is known to want Williams permanently, but United is just entertaining the 20-year-old, who can play left or right-back, with a loan move.
Last season, Williams made 36 appearances in all competitions and was a regular in the run of the Red Devils to the Europa League semi-finals, however in 2020/21, the England Under-21 international found games harder to come by. Since the beginning of the campaign, he has played only five times.
United are keen to get more first-team experience for Williams, who is highly regarded by the coaching staff at Old Trafford, but do not want to risk the homegrown full-back permanently. With Luke Shaw and new arrival Alex Telles, he has dropped down the pecking order, producing the first-choices for the left-back role of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Premier League Southampton, who under Ralph Hasenhuttl is enjoying a fine season, are also interested in a temporary move for Williams and could look to return with a loan bid, having been rebuffed earlier this summer.
