In the summer, Chelsea would like to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba as a free agent.
The London club has been told, according to The Telegraph, that the Austrian wants to earn around £ 20 m a year from his new team. Chelsea isn’t willing to pay that much. Only if Alaba reduces his financial demands will a transfer be possible.
RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano and Atletico Madrid player Jose Jimenez were also looked at by the Blues’ scouts, although those options were considered too expensive.
In the meantime, the club will have to decide whether to extend the contract of 36-year-old defender Tiago Silva, who has a season-long contract extension option. Brazil hopes to extend the partnership. Chelsea will probably go ahead with the move.
It is clear that the decision on the future of Silva is not linked to the possibility of signing an additional central defender.
