Euro 2022 champions England are set to take on World Cup holders USA at Wembley on October 7. The first meeting between the two teams is subject to England securing World Cup qualification in their final two group games. They need a point in Austria or a win against Luxembourg at home. A crowd of 87,192 witnessed the final while they have already sold 20,000 tickets for their game against Luxembourg after their triumph in the Euro 2022 final.
“It would be the perfect game to meet another strong team after so many tough games in Euro 2022,” England Women head coach Sarina Wiegman said. “It is good we enjoy the moment we are in after this wonderful summer, but we know we still have to work to do to take the next step forward. As a team, we take nothing for granted with our goal of reaching the World Cup and whoever we play at home in October it will be special to have another Wembley fixture. After the positive experiences we have had this summer, it will be great to welcome as many fans as possible, so that we can say thanks again for their incredible support.”
“I feel on top of Europe, but there’s still one more we can get our hands on,” England Women right-back Lucy Bronze said. “There’s a little star missing from our crest on the England shirt. That’s definitely a mission of ours to get that star there.”
“We always want more,” Ella Toone who scored in the Euro 2022 final said. “We’ve been waiting a long, long time for this and now we’ve got it, we want more. We want to go to the World Cup and do exactly what we’ve just done.”
